Volvo Thinks Big About Small Cars

Not so long ago, Volvo released the latest-generation XC90. It was the first model build on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the largest of the Volvo lineup, the most elegant, and the most modern. Shortly thereafter, the redesigned Volvo S90 was added to the stable on the SPA platform. This fall, the 2017 Volvo V90 will round out the 90 series.

With the 90-series releases wrapping up, the Swedish automaker is now ready to unleash its new platform for small cars -- Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

The first two vehicles built on CMA are concepts 40.1 and 40.2, a crossover SUV and a liftback sedan, respectively. The new 40 series made its debut in May, and ignited the world's interest in CMA. Production models based on 40.1 and 40.2 are expected to go on sale in 2017, bringing with them an entirely unique personality that both complements and contrasts the rest of the Volvo lineup.
