Volvo Reveals Specs for Drive-E Engines

At Paul's Volvo, our collection of Volvo vehicles provide drivers with efficient, luxurious, and safe rides, and moving forward in to a new era, that's not going to change. Many ardent Volvo fans know about the many changes coming from the Swedish automaker, and today, we'd like to detail one part, found under the hood.

New engines, built using the Drive-E philosophy, which hopes to gain more efficiency by using lighter, and smaller power plants, without giving up horsepower and handling, have been announced. They'll be available in gas and diesel, though the U.S. will only see the gasoline versions for the time being, and only on front-wheel drive vehicles to start, too.

They are broken down in to two categories: the T5 and T6. On the former option, you'll find 240 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the T6 offers more in the form of 302 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Each comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and according to Volvo, will be between 13 and 26 percent more efficient than the current lineup of new Volvo vehicles, which are economical at the gas pump in their own right.

These engines also are expected to weigh around a 100 pounds less, and come in a more compact package. But, as you can see by the power output, they won't be short on ensuring vehicles like the XC90 and S60 continue to be versatile options for all of us in Hawthorne, NJ.
